Facts about human Mind

Human brain

The human cerebral cortex, which we believe accounts for our higher cognitive functions, only accounts for 19% of the neurons in the brain.

The cerebral cortex is only 4mm thick.

The cerebellum, the so-called "little brain" that helps modulate motor movement, contains 70 billion neurons alone [2]. It has way more neurons than our cerebral cortex.

Most of the axons crossing the corpus callosum (which connects the left and right hemispheres) carry inhibitory messages, not excitatory ones.

The two hemispheres are slightly asymmetrical. The right hemisphere is situated slightly ahead of the left hemisphere. This is because it has slightly more mass in its frontal lobe, whereas the left hemisphere has slightly more mass in the occipital lobe.

Most people have their language centers localized in the left hemisphere. In most people, the right hemisphere can only speak a few words, but it specializes in visuo-spatial tasks.

Everything you perceive with your senses is slightly in the past, due to the fact that signals sent along axons are relatively slow.

Neurons generate magnetic fields, just like any other electrical device.

When a person doesn't use one of their senses, the unused sensory cortex will be allocated to different functions, including an entirely different sense. For instance, a blind person's visual cortex will not be wasted, but will just be used for other functions (i.e hearing).
